"It's not what you do for God; it's what God has done for you. You switch from trying to love God to just letting God love you."
Fr. Richard Rohr, Daily Meditation, June 15
I wonder why this is so difficult for us? It happens later in life, once we finally realize no matter how hard we try, we cannot earn our own salvation. We can't be good enough, say enough prayers and do enough good works to ever measure up. And then, that happy day when we realize that we don't have to! We realize that Jesus dying on the cross for us was THE salvation act. And, thanks be to God for that! It's risky, though, not working for our own salvation, isn't it? We may feel lazy or slack or just plain naughty. We have been raised with the notion that God is to be feared and we must do this, this, and this to earn God's love and support. But, at some point, it has to hit us. God loves us more than we could ever earn or deserve or understand. No matter what we do. Let's spend some time this day just letting God love us...for no good reason other than God DOES love us. Love, heidi
